62-Unit Seniors Development Proposed for Hampton Road

62-Unit Seniors Development Proposed for Hampton Road

A new 62-unit aging-in-place community could be coming to Hampton Road in Quispamsis.

Developer Judy Lane is proposing a mix of 33 apartment units and 29 garden homes designed to support seniors who want to remain independent. Lane, a nurse by profession, told council there’s a growing demand for this type of housing. The development would include on-site property maintenance and live-in caregivers for residents who need home support.

Construction would take place over eight years, starting with the duplexes—20 two-bedroom and nine one-bedroom units—followed by the apartment building in the final phase.

Several nearby residents raised concerns during a public hearing about the impact on their wells. Town staff said the first phase will use private wells, but municipal water is expected to be extended to the area by 2026.

Gary Losier, the town’s director of engineering and works, said the existing system has enough capacity to serve future growth along Hampton Road and nearby side streets.

Council approved the first and second readings of the necessary rezonings, with final approval expected early in 2025.
