Quispamsis Town Council has approved a $37-million budget for 2025, which includes a nearly 1.8-cent reduction in the residential property tax rate, lowering it to $1.2599 per $100 of assessment.
Despite the rate cut, many residents may still see higher tax bills due to increased provincial property assessments. Additionally, water and sewer rates are set to rise by approximately four percent in the upcoming year.
The overall budget represents an eight percent increase over the 2024 budget, with nearly half of that increase allocated to capital funding and a larger transfer to reserves. Notable capital projects include over $7 million for general capital improvements, with $4.6 million coming from the operating budget. Approximately $2 million will be financed through borrowing, and $400,000 will be sourced from the federal Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF).
Key projects for 2025 include nearly $3.7 million earmarked for road upgrades throughout the town, $544,000 for phase one upgrades at the Cedar Ridge playground, $650,000 to renovate the public works building, and $280,000 for projects at the town’s two arenas.
